The BP Volkswagen rally team finished their 2012 season in style, claiming the top two positions at the Garden Route Rally. Hans Weijs Jnr and Björn Degandt rallied home in first place with their teammates Enzo Kuun and Guy Hodgson hot on their heels. “Hans and Björn did an amazing job this weekend,” says Mike Rowe, head of Volkswagen Motorsport. “The last two rallies we've finished in second place, so we've been knocking on the door of victory, this is a great finish for the team.”

In 2010 eindigt Hans Weijs junior als vice-kampioen in het JWRC, De rallyrijder uit Elst dankt zijn kans aan Nasser Al-Attiyah en het Qatar World Rally Team. De rijder uit Qatar, winnaar van de Dakar Rally 2011 en goed voor Olympisch brons in Londen bij het kleiduivenschieten, schoof Hans Weijs naar voren nadat de Rally van Spanje niet in zijn sportieve schema bleek te passen. Ik ken Nasser al langer en tijdens de WK-rally van Duitsland heb ik als zijn gravelspotter gewerkt. Die samenwerking verliep uitermate goed. Zo is het balletje aan het rollen gekomen en heeft het Qatar World Rally Team me deze unieke kans geboden.” Met hulp van vele Nederlandse sponsors werd zijn debuut in de eredivisie definitief.

The BP Volkswagen rally team head to Knysna for the final round of the 2012 national rally championship on Friday and Saturday, 2 and 3 November. This two-day event will see the five-car BP Volkswagen rally team contest 12 stages of gravel action.
With just this one event remaining in the season the team's focus is on ensuring the BP Volkswagen Polo S2000 is fighting fit for the 2013 season. There are 180 km of competition kilometres waiting for the team in the Western Cape and each of those kilometres should deliver exciting national rally moments.

The BP Volkswagen team rallied to second place overall at the Toyota Cape Dealer Rally on Saturday afternoon in Caledon. This position was thanks to a great performance by Enzo Kuun and Guy Hodgson in their BP Volkswagen Polo S2000. Kuun and Hodgson won stage six on Friday but it was their consistent performance, never out of the top five that saw them in second place overnight. It was from that commanding position that they focused on producing their best result this season. “Saturday was all about keeping our performance strong, but not taking any chances,” says Kuun. “The pace was quick and we drove hard, but for us it was more about keeping our podium position than challenging for an overall victory.”
